It used to be that people in the UK were the focus of jokes around the rest of the world because of our apparent poor dental hygiene. Today I question the validity of this statement, especially now that the health of the nation’s teeth has improved. Many more people focus on the cosmetic appearance of their teeth, as they search for the perfect smile. However, this perfect smile doesn’t come cheap.
First, the prices for dental treatment in the UK are very high, and it’s often a real struggle to get treatment at all. In fact, I know plenty of people who have put off going to the dentist until later, because they can’t afford it. The problem is, with a lot of dental ailments, the longer it takes before the treatment, the worse it is going to get.
And as if that is not bad enough, we have all seen the numerous articles about people not being able to find an NHS dentist – and having to go private can push the price up even further. And most cosmetic dentistry cannot even be done under the NHS anyway…
So, I decided to write this blog because I really appreciate the benefits of travelling further afield to get that elusive perfect smile. I can see the appeal for dental treatment abroad, which can cost so much less, especially if it is combined with a summer holiday, rather than needing to make a special trip. Check out the price comparisons below from www.dentalabroad.co.uk, for more detailed info, click here. Details on the treatment procedures is from here
| Treatment | Description | Cost UK Euros | Cost Abroad Euros | Saving Euros |

I run a British dental clinic abroad in Piestany spa, Slovakia (http://www.dentalholiday.co.uk) and can certainly say that Brits going abroad for dental treatment such as crowns and dental implants is a fast growing trend here in Europe. Not only to save money and time but also to receive access to some of the most experienced dentists within the European Union.

Read an interesting article in The Times the other day, confirming that Brits really do now have the best teeth in the world – well at the age of 12 anyway! But it is not clear whether that is from people travelling for dental treatment abroad! Here is the link http://tinyurl.com/yf7jgnp

Hi. Thanks for the comment. As mentioned on this blog, a Hollywood smile is becoming more and more important for people, but because of the expense of treatment in the UK, people are considering going abroad for treatment instead. You might want to look at the following blogs which all focus on dental treatment abroad http://tinyurl.com/yaf7qax. Hope that helps.

I recently conducted a survey on the cost of a dental implant in Asia, including Thailand, India, the Philippines and China. The results of the survey are here – http://smileplanners.com/blog/the-price-of-a-dental-implant-in-asia/ – and I will soon publish the cost of a dental veneer in Asia.
